Format, taste and budget:
find the right choice for you.

There is no single ham that is best for everyone. We begin this selection with how it will be consumed: carving at home, opening a packet occasionally or giving it as a gift. We then compare the designation, format and price of the chosen product. This makes it easier to assess what each option offers.

If you want to carve at home

A whole ham lets you carve as you need it, but requires a stable ham stand, suitable knives and space to work. Choose the weight according to your expected consumption and confidence in carving. A larger ham is not necessarily the purchase you will make the best use of.

If you prefer individual portions

Sliced ham lets you open a specific quantity. Compare the net weight, number of packets and type of slicing, as well as storage instructions. For boneless ham, check the delivered weight and how you intend to slice it.

If you are choosing a gift

Consider whether the recipient has the equipment and wants to carve a whole ham. Sliced ham may be more convenient for someone who prefers to serve it without preparation. Check the presentation and exactly what is included.

Designation, origin and brand

The brand, place of production, protected designation of origin and product category are different pieces of information. For an Ibérico product covered by the quality standard, read the designation and breed percentage alongside the seal. A black commercial label or the words “signature selection” do not in themselves establish the 100% Ibérico acorn-fed category.

If a product claims a PDO, check that specific identification. Do not infer it simply because its name mentions Jabugo or another place. Also consider production, the stated curing period and the format you will actually buy.

How to compare prices

Compare products in the same format and check the weight and preparation included. The weight of a bone-in ham includes parts removed during preparation, while the net weight of sliced ham refers to the ready-to-eat product delivered. Consult the current product page for options and the final price.

This selection reflects the criteria of Jamón y Paletilla. It is not an independent ranking of every ham in Spain and does not imply undocumented awards or sales positions.
